The Shack, A Lakeside Log Lodge and Country Inn
The Shack, as we are fondly called, is a large log lodge resort on a small, beautiful, quiet water lake in Newaygo County in West Michigan. We are not just a hotel and we are more than a bed and breakfast with 55 spacious rooms and the authentic ambiance only a log lodge can provide. Every night at 8:45 our Guests can enjoy our famous Banana Splits!
For many years we have been best known as The Shack Bed and Breakfast, a Country Inn, nestled in a 100 acre of wood on the banks of the lovely Robinson Lake which is just north of Fremont, Michigan and South West of White Cloud Michigan. We are located in tiny rural community known as Jugville. Jugville has a small corner store, a boat launch along with cottages and residences in the surrounding area. We are just an hour from Grand Rapids, 45 minutes from Muskegon and other towns along the Lake Michigan Shoreline, and just 25 minutes from Big Rapids to the North.
Marv Deur and his family have owned The Shack, since it was a small 5 room log bed and breakfast. They have been providing a quiet and relaxing getaway for their guests since 1976 and have continued to add more beautiful log buildings which house their log furniture appointed private guestrooms. We have grown and are truly a large lakeside log lodge. Some of the rooms have lake views, some view the gardens and the grounds, others have hot tubs and a lake view, there are also large fireplace hot tub rooms in the beautiful building know as the Livery. Other amenities include an outdoor log chapel, a prayer chapel, paddle boats, game rooms for billiards, shuffleboard and ping pong, many sittings rooms, conference rooms, meetings rooms, dining rooms, log gazebos and the best front porch sitting south of the Mackinaw Bridge.
Favorite summer activities at The Shack include hiking, swimming, fishing, riding paddle boats, sitting on a covered porch, or just relaxing by the lake. Our flower gardens are a special treat and our grounds extend from the shores of Robinson lake over a 1/4 of a mile down our private paved road to the main road . We have trails along the shore of the lake and into the woods for hiking, walking and exploring nature. There is an outdoor chapel by the lake as well as an adorable log prayer chapel off the wood trail. We also have Antique and Heritage Museum on the grounds, Newaygo County has a historical museum, 2 performing arts centers, 354 lakes and miles of clear flowing rivers including the Muskegon, The Pere Marquette and the White River. The lakes and rivers of Newaygo and Lake Counties are known for their boating, fishing, kayaking and tubing adventures.
